Zani Shahinian-Mesrobian is a well-known Diaspora Armenian children’s author, educator, and prose writer whose literary works are dedicated to the Armenian upbringing of children and the preservation of Western Armenian. She is especially recognized for her popular “Varag” children’s story and book series, which includes the volumes Varag Visits Armenia, Varag Goes to School, Varag’s New Year Wish, and Children of the Same World. In her works, Shahinian-Mesrobian conveys the significance of patriotism, family values, Armenian traditions, and holidays to children using simple, picturesque, and engaging language, making her beloved by the new generation of Diaspora Armenians.
Զանի Շահինեան-Մեսրոպեան սփիւռքահայ ծանօթ մանկագիր, կրթական մշակ եւ արձակագիր է, որուն գրական ստեղծագործութիւնները նուիրուած են մանուկներու հայեցի դաստիարակութեան եւ արեւմտահայերէնի պահպանման։ Ան յատկապէս ճանչցուած է իր հանրայայտ «Վարագ» մանկական պատմուածքներու եւ գրքերու շարքով, որոնցմէ են՝ «Վարագը կ՚այցելէ Հայաստան», «Վարագը դպրոց կ՚երթայ», «Վարագին կաղանդի մաղթանքը» եւ «Միեւնոյն աշխարհի մանուկներ» հատորները։ Իր գործերուն մէջ Շահինեան-Մեսրոպեան պարզ, պատկերաւոր ու գրաւիչ լեզուով մանուկներուն կը փոխանցէ հայրենասիրութեան, ընտանեկան արժէքներու, հայկական աւանդութիւններու եւ տօներու խորհուրդը՝ սիրելի դառնալով սփիւռքահայ նոր սերունդին համար։
