Ara Oshagan


Ara Oshagan is a photographer whose work revolves around the intersecting themes of identity, community, and memory. His first collection, iwitness, joined portraits of witnesses of the Armenian Genocide of 1915 with their stories of horror, survival, and redemption. Oshagan has also photographed the Armenian diaspora of Los Angeles in a body of work entitled Traces of Identity. His other projects include Juvies, focusing on the history of youth in the California prison system, and a project about the Ethiopian community of Los Angeles. Ara Oshagan’s work is in the permanent collection of the Southeast Museum of Photography, Florida; the Downey Museum of Art, California; and the Museum of Modern Art in Armenia.

Ara Papian

Ara Papian is an Armenian diplomat, lawyer, and historian who served as the Ambassador of Armenia to Canada from 2000 to 2006. Born in Yerevan in 1961, he graduated from Yerevan State University’s Oriental Studies department and later studied at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry and the NATO Defense College in Rome. Following his diplomatic career, he became the founder and president of the “Modus Vivendi” Center for Social Science, a Yerevan-based think tank focusing on historical-legal analysis of international treaties and boundary issues affecting Armenia. Additionally, he is a prominent political figure in Armenia as a member of the National Democratic Alliance.

Արա Պապյանը հայ դիվանագետ, իրավաբան և պատմաբան է, ով 2000-2006 թվականներին զբաղեցրել է Կանադայում Հայաստանի դեսպանի պաշտոնը: Ծնվել է 1961 թվականին Երևանում, ավարտել է Երևանի պետական համալսարանի արևելագիտության ֆակուլտետը, իսկ հետագայում ուսանել է Ռուսաստանի արտաքին գործերի նախարարության դիվանագիտական ակադեմիայում և Հռոմի ՆԱՏՕ-ի պաշտպանական քոլեջում: Դիվանագիտական կարիերայից հետո նա հիմնադրել և ղեկավարել է «Մոդուս Վիվենդի» սոցիալական գիտությունների կենտրոնը, որը զբաղվում է Հայաստանին առնչվող միջազգային պայմանագրերի և սահմանային խնդիրների պատմաիրավական վերլուծությամբ: Բացի այդ, նա հանդիսանում է Հայաստանի հայտնի քաղաքական գործիչներից մեկը՝ որպես «Ազգային ժողովրդավարական բևեռի» անդամ:

Ara Sarafian


Historian specializing in the late Ottoman Empire and modern Turkey. He was a founding director of the Gomidas Institute, and has edited and written critical introductions to several of the institute’s publications. Now director of the Taderon Press, he is developing the Sterndale Classics imprint. \
