Zahrad (born Zareh Yaldizciyan, 1924–2007) was one of the most renowned and beloved Istanbul-Armenian poets of the 20th century. Born and active in Istanbul, he attended the Mkhitarist school. Zahrad revolutionized Western Armenian poetry by abandoning traditional metrics and introducing free verse and simple, everyday language into his work. The central figure of his lyricism is the ordinary, everyday man (such as his famous character “Kiko”), and his works are characterized by subtle irony and deep humanitarianism. Author of numerous collections, his poems have been translated into more than twenty world languages.
Զահրատը (իսկական անունով՝ Զարեհ Եալտըզճեան, 1924–2007) 20-րդ դարու պոլսահայ ամենանշանաւոր եւ սիրուած բանաստեղծներէն է։ Ան ծնած եւ ստեղծագործած է Իսթանպուլի մէջ, ուր յաճախած է Մխիթարեան վարժարան։ Զահրատ յեղաշրջեց արեւմտահայ պոեզիան՝ հրաժարելով աւանդական տաղաչափութենէն եւ իր գործերուն մէջ ներմուծելով ազատ չափն ու պարզ, առօրեայ լեզուն։ Իր քնարերգութեան կեդրոնական կերպարը սովորական, փոքր մարդն է (ինչպէս իր յայտնի «Կիկօ»ն), իսկ անոր գործերը յատկանշուած են նուրբ հեգնանքով ու խոր մարդասիրութեամբ։ Հեղինակ է բազմաթիւ ժողովածուներու, եւ իր բանաստեղծութիւնները թարգմանուած են աշխարհի աւելի քան քսան լեզուներու։
