Kostan Zarian (1885–1969) is one of the greatest and most unique figures of 20th-century Armenian literature, serving as a poet, prose writer, and essayist. Born in Shamakhi (located in modern-day Azerbaijan) and educated in Europe, he initially wrote in French and Russian, but later chose Eastern Armenian as his primary creative language. Zarian was a cultural wanderer, living and lecturing in various cultural centers around the world, and spent the final years of his life settled in Soviet Armenia. Characterized by its philosophical depth, his literary legacy includes renowned novels such as The Ship on the Mountain, The Traveler and His Road, and Bancoop and the Bones of the Mammoth.
Կոստան Զարեանը (1885–1969 թթ․) 20-րդ դարի հայ գրականութեան խոշորագոյն և ամենաինքնատիպ դէմքերից է, բանաստեղծ, արձակագիր և էսսէիստ։ Կրթութիւն ստանալով Եւրոպայում՝ նա սկզբնապէս գրել է ֆրանսերէն ու ռուսերէն, սակայն հետագայում ընտրել է արևելահայերէնը որպէս ստեղծագործական հիմնական լեզու։ Զարեանը եղել է մշակութային թափառական՝ ապրելով ու դասախօսելով աշխարհի տարբեր մշակութային կենտրոններում, իսկ կեանքի վերջին տարիներին հաստատուել է Խորհրդային Հայաստանում։ Նրա գրական վաստակը, որն աչքի է ընկնում փիլիսոփայական խորութեամբ, ներառում է այնպիսի հռչակաւոր գործեր, ինչպիսիք են «Նաւը լեռան վրայ», «Անցորդը և իր ճամբան» և «Բանկոոպը և մամոնթի ոսկորները» վէպերը։
