Shahe Mankerian

Shahé Mankerian is the principal of St. Gregory Hovsepian School and the director of mentorship at the International Armenian Literary Alliance (IALA). This debut collection has been a finalist at the Bibby First Book Competition, the Crab Orchard Poetry Open Competition, the Quercus Review Press Poetry Book Award, and the White Pine Press Poetry Prize.

Shahen Derderian

Shahen Derderian was barely eight years old when the Ottoman Turkish government deported his family, along with the entire Armenian community of his native Sebastia (now Sivas). The uprooting was part of an elaborate Turkish plan to exterminate the Armenian population of Anatolia. In the ensuing forced marches, the Sebastia caravan – one among countless others – was subjected by the Turkish police and hired criminals to a systematic spree of murder, robbery, rape, and death by starvation and disease. Young Shahen Derderian survived the carnage through sheer miracle.

Shahen Khatchatrian

Shahen Khachatrian (1934–2021) was an eminent Armenian art historian, critic, and curator who dedicated his life to the preservation and global promotion of Armenian fine arts. Born in Aleppo, Syria, he repatriated to Soviet Armenia in 1946 and later graduated from the Repin Institute of Arts in Leningrad. In 1967, he was personally appointed by the legendary painter Martiros Sarian to direct the Martiros Sarian House-Museum, a position he held for over 40 years, while concurrently serving as the director of the National Gallery of Armenia from 1991 to 2002. A prolific author, Khachatrian wrote definitive monographs on masters like Ivan Aivazovsky and Arshile Gorky, and he successfully enriched Armenia’s state collections with hundreds of invaluable masterpieces acquired from the diaspora.

Շահեն Խաչատրյանը (1934–2021 թթ.) հայ նշանավոր արվեստաբան, քննադատ և համադրող է, ով իր կյանքը նվիրել է հայ կերպարվեստի պահպանմանն ու համաշխարհային հանրահռչակմանը: Ծնվելով Սիրիայի Հալեպ քաղաքում՝ նա 1946 թվականին ընտանիքի հետ հայրենադարձվել է Խորհրդային Հայաստան, իսկ ավելի ուշ ավարտել է Լենինգրադի Ռեպինի անվան գեղարվեստի ինստիտուտը: 1967 թվականին լեգենդար նկարիչ Մարտիրոս Սարյանի անձնական ընտրությամբ նա նշանակվել է Մարտիրոս Սարյանի տուն-թանգարանի տնօրեն՝ ղեկավարելով այն ավելի քան 40 տարի, իսկ 1991-2002 թվականներին զուգահեռաբար եղել է Հայաստանի ազգային պատկերասրահի տնօրենը: Լինելով բազմաթիվ աշխատությունների հեղինակ՝ Խաչատրյանը հիմնարար մենագրություններ է գրել այնպիսի մեծ վարպետների մասին, ինչպիսիք են Հովհաննես Այվազովսկին և Արշիլ Գորկին, ինչպես նաև հաջողությամբ հարստացրել է Հայաստանի պետական հավաքածուները սփյուռքից ձեռք բերված հարյուրավոր անգնահատելի գլուխգործոցներով:
