Bedros Tourian

Bedros Tourian (real surname Zmbyan, 1851–1872) was a prominent Western Armenian poet, playwright, and one of the most beloved figures in Armenian literature. He was born, lived, and created in Istanbul (Scutari), where he attended the local Academy and had the renowned satirist Hagop Baronian as his teacher. Despite his exceedingly short life, he became one of the founders of Armenian Romanticism and revolutionized Armenian poetry by introducing a lyricism filled with genuine, personal emotions and profound inner experiences. His famous poems, such as The Lake, Complaints, and To Love, depict the internal struggle against love, death, patriotism, and terminal illness. Tourian also wrote historical plays, such as Black Lands, and died of tuberculosis at only 20 years of age.

Պետրոս Դուրեանը (իսկական ազգանունով՝ Զըմպայեան, 1851–1872) արեւմտահայ նշանաւոր բանաստեղծ, դրամատուրգ եւ հայ գրականութեան ամենասիրուած դէմքերէն է։ Ան ծնած, ապրած եւ ստեղծագործած է Իսթանպուլի (Սկիւտար) մէջ՝ յաճախած տեղւոյն Ճեմարանը, ուր իր ուսուցիչը եղած է Յակոբ Պարոնեանը։ Չնայած իր չափազանց կարճ կեանքին, ան եղաւ հայ ռոմանթիզմի հիմնադիրներէն եւ վերանորոգեց հայ պոեզիան՝ ներմուծելով անկեղծ, անձնական յուզումներով եւ խոր ապրումներով լեցուն քնարերգութիւն։ Իր յայտնի բանաստեղծութիւնները (ինչպէս՝ «Լճակ», «Տրտունջք», «Սիրել») կը պատկերեն սիրոյ, մահուան, հայրենասիրութեան եւ հիւանդութեան դէմ մղուող ներքին պայքարը։ Դուրեան գրած է նաեւ պատմական թատերախաղեր (օրինակ՝ «Սեւ հողեր կամ Յառաջատան Անկումը Մեծին Արշակայ») եւ մահացած է թոքախտէ ընդամէնը 20 տարեկան հասակին։

Bedross Der Matossian

Bedross Der Matossian is Professor of Modern Middle East history and the Hymen Rosenberg Professor in Judaic Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA. He is the author, editor, and co-editor of multiple books including Shattered Dreams of Revolution: From Liberty to Violence in the Late Ottoman Empire (2014) and The Horrors of Adana: Revolution and Violence in the Early Twentieth Century (2022). He serves on the editorial board of journals including the International Journal of Middle East Studies (IJMES).

Ben Kiernan

Ben Kiernan is the A. Whitney Griswold Professor of History, professor of international and area studies, and the founding director of the Genocide Studies Program at Yale University. His previous books include How Pol Pot Came to Power: Colonialism, Nationalism, and Communism in Cambodia, 1930–1975 and The Pol Pot Regime: Race, Power, and Genocide in Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge, 1975-1979, published by Yale University Press.
