Description

The subject of this book is centered around the ancient and medieval history of Armenia with its up-to-date modern development from the singular perspective of a dynastic story of different branches of a particular family. The book touches on the histories of the ancient kingdom of Armenia under the Artashesids, Arshakids, Mamikonians, Bagratids, and Artsrunids, the crusading kingdom of Cilicia under the Rubenids, Hethumids, and Lusignans, the principalities of Artaz, Aragatsotn-Oshakan, Hamshen, and Siunik under the Amatunis, Vachutians, and Melik-Parsadanians, and the illustrious houses of the Gabras of Pontus-Trebizond, Kourkouas of Chaldia, Taronites, Kabasites, Tzanichites of Mesochaldion, Ibelin of Levant and Cyprus, and Sir Adan of Baghras, Kapan and Isauria. This is a chronicle in a form of an essay about an Armenian princely dynasty, the Amatunis, from times immemorial to the present day, the Amatunis, who were the constables, the “hazarapets,” of the Royal court and had high ranking position No. 5 in the list of the Armenian princely nobility called “Gahnamak.”
