Vicken Cheterian is a Lebanese-born Swiss academic, journalist, and political analyst specializing in international relations, violent conflicts, and genocide studies. He holds a PhD from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva and works as a lecturer in history and international relations at both the University of Geneva and Webster University Geneva. Over his career, Cheterian has conducted extensive field research across the post-Soviet space, the Middle East, and North Africa, frequently contributing to prominent publications like Le Monde diplomatique and serving as a columnist for the Istanbul-based weekly Agos. As an author, his major works include War and Peace in the Caucasus: Russia’s Troubled Frontier, Open Wounds: Armenians, Turks and a Century of Genocide, and his multi-expert edited volume analyzing recent regional tensions, The 44-Day War: Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the Struggle for Nagorno-Karabakh.
