Mikayel Nalbandian (1829–1866) was a prominent 19th-century Armenian writer, poet, political activist, and philosopher who became one of the most influential figures of the Armenian National Awakening. He was a fierce champion of the modern secular Armenian language (Ashkharhabar), secular education, and social progress, strongly critiquing the conservative and clerical establishment of his time. The core of Nalbandian's work centers on the idea of absolute liberty, famously captured in his iconic poem "Liberty" (Ազատություն), which later served as the lyrical basis for the national anthem of the Republic of Armenia. Due to his underground revolutionary activities and opposition to the Russian Tsarist regime, he was arrested, imprisoned in the Peter and Paul Fortress, and died in exile, remaining a lasting symbol of unyielding will and freedom in Armenian history.
Միքայել Նալբանդյանը (1829–1866) 19-րդ դարի հայ նշանավոր գրող, բանաստեղծ, հասարակական-քաղաքական գործիչ և փիլիսոփա է, ով դարձավ հայ ազգային-ազատագրական զարթոնքի ամենաազդեցիկ դեմքերից մեկը: Նա հանդես է եկել որպես աշխարհաբար լեզվի, աշխարհիկ կրթության և սոցիալական առաջադիմության ջերմ պաշտպան՝ խստորեն քննադատելով ժամանակի պահպանողական ու կղերական հայացքները: Նալբանդյանի ստեղծագործության առանցքը բացարձակ ազատության գաղափարն է, ինչի վառ վկայությունն է նրա հռչակավոր «Ազատություն» բանաստեղծությունը, որի հիման վրա էլ հետագայում ստեղծվել է Հայաստանի Հանրապետության օրհներգը: Իր հեղափոխական գործունեության և ցարական ռեժիմի դեմ պայքարի պատճառով նա ձերբակալվել է, բանտարկվել Պետրոպավլովյան ամրոցում և մահացել աքսորի մեջ՝ հայ գրականության պատմության մեջ մնալով որպես անկոտրում կամքի և ազատատենչության խորհրդանիշ:
