Levon Shant (1869–1951) is one of the greatest figures in Armenian literature, playwriting, and public-political life. Born in Constantinople, he studied at the Gevorkian Seminary in Etchmiadzin and later received his higher education in Germany and Switzerland. As the founder of Armenian symbolist drama, he raised profound philosophical questions of the human soul and freedom in his famous plays, such as Old Gods and The Emperor. As a statesman, he served as the vice-president of the parliament of the First Republic of Armenia, and in 1930, he co-founded the Hamazkayin Armenian Djemaran in Beirut, which became one of the most important centers of Armenian diasporan educational life.
Լեւոն Շանթ (1869–1951) հայ գրականութեան, թատերագրութեան եւ հասարակական-քաղաքական կեանքի մեծագոյն դէմքերէն է։ Ծնած է Կոստանդնուպոլիս, ուսանած է Էջմիածնի Գէորգեան ճեմարանին մէջ, ապա բարձրագոյն կրթութիւն ստացած է Գերմանիոյ ու Զուիցերիոյ մէջ։ Որպէս հայ խորհրդապաշտ թատերագրութեան հիմնադիր, ան իր հանրայայտ թատերախաղերուն մէջ, ինչպէս են «Հին աստուածներ»-ը եւ «Կայսր»-ը, արծարծած է մարդկային հոգիի եւ ազատութեան խոր փիլիսոփայական հարցեր։ Իբրեւ պետական գործիչ, ան եղած է Հայաստանի Առաջին Հանրապետութեան խորհրդարանի փոխնախագահ, իսկ 1930-ին Պէյրութի մէջ հիմնած է Համազգայինի Հայ Ճեմարանը, որ դարձած է սփիւռքահայ կրթական կեանքի ամենակարեւոր կեդրոններէն մէկը։
