Khachatur Abovyan (1809–1848) is the father of modern Armenian literature and the founder of the Eastern Armenian vernacular. After receiving his education at the University of Dorpat, he dedicated his life to public enlightenment and the spread of education. His greatest masterpiece, the historical novel Wounds of Armenia, became the first novel written in the language of the common people, playing a breakthrough role in the national awakening. Abovyan was also among the first to ascend to the summit of Mount Ararat in 1829. In 1848, the great enlightener mysteriously left his home and disappeared, leaving behind an invaluable literary legacy.
Խաչատուր Աբովյանը (1809–1848) հայ նոր գրականության հայրն ու արևելահայ աշխարհաբարի հիմնադիրն է։ Կրթություն ստանալով Դորպատի համալսարանում՝ նա իր կյանքը նվիրեց ժողովրդի լուսավորությանն ու կրթության տարածմանը։ Նրա մեծագույն գլուխգործոցը՝ «Վերք Հայաստանի» պատմական վեպը, դարձավ ժողովրդական լեզվով գրված առաջին վեպը, որը բեկումնային դեր խաղաց ազգային զարթոնքի գործում։ Աբովյանը նաև առաջիններից էր, ով 1829 թվականին բարձրացավ Արարատ լեռան գագաթը։ Մեծ լուսավորիչը 1848 թվականին առեղծվածային կերպով դուրս եկավ տանից և անհետ կորավ՝ թողնելով անգնահատելի գրական ժառանգություն։
