
James C. Baloian is an American-Armenian poet, educator, and editor, who was born in Fresno, California, on August 11, 1945. He attended Fresno State College and the University of California, Irvine, graduating from the latter in 1969. Emerging as a distinct voice in the Central Valley literary scene, he is well-known for co-editing the influential 1971 anthology Down at the Santa Fe Depot: 20 Fresno Poets, which helped put Fresno’s vibrant poetry community on the national map. Over his decades-long career, Baloian has published several individual collections of poetry, including The Ararat Papers, where he explores deep themes of heritage, nature, landscape, and personal identity.
