Haig Tahta

Haig Tahta was an English-Armenian author, lawyer, and translator who dedicated much of his life to exploring the history and narratives of the Armenian diaspora. Born in Manchester to Armenian parents who immigrated to England from Constantinople in the 1920s, he spent his formative years deeply connected to his heritage. He earned a degree in Modern History from Oxford, where he specialized in the “Eastern Question,” before practicing law for forty years. Alongside his brother, the acclaimed math educator Dikran “Dick” Tahta, he translated the classic Armenian novel Burning Orchards. Later in life, Tahta authored a projected historical fiction trilogy following the Armenian Avakian family through the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, publishing April 1915 in 2005 and Constantinople 1920 subsequently.
