Gabriel Sundukian (1825–1912) was a brilliant Tiflis-Armenian dramatist and the founder of the realist movement in Armenian playwriting. Born in Tiflis and a graduate of Saint Petersburg University, he used his works to bring the real life of his time, the common man, and the daily lifestyle of Tiflis Armenians to the stage, creating characters rich with sharp social commentary. His masterpiece, the drama Pepo (1871), was not only a monumental theatrical achievement but also served as the basis for the first Armenian sound film in 1935, while his other well-known comedies, such as Khatabala and Yet Another Victim, remain an inseparable part of the Armenian theater repertoire to this day.
Գաբրիել Սունդուկյանը (1825–1912) թիֆլիսահայ հանճարեղ դրամատուրգ և հայ գրականության մեջ ռեալիստական թատերագրության հիմնադիրն է։ Ծնվելով Թիֆլիսում և ավարտելով Սանկտ Պետերբուրգի համալսարանը՝ նա իր ստեղծագործությամբ բեմ բերեց իր ժամանակի իրական կյանքը, հասարակ մարդուն ու թիֆլիսահայ կենցաղը՝ կերտելով սոցիալական սուր քննադատությամբ հարուստ կերպարներ։ Նրա գլուխգործոցը՝ «Պեպո» դրաման (1871), ոչ միայն թատերական մեծագույն նվաճում էր, այլև 1935 թվականին դարձավ հայկական առաջին հնչուն ֆիլմի հիմքը, իսկ նրա մյուս կատակերգությունները, ինչպիսիք են «Խաթաբալան» և «Էլի մեկ զոհը», մինչ օրս հանդիսանում են հայկական թատրոնի անբաժանելի մասը։
