Argam Ayvazyan

Argam Ayvazyan (born 1947 in Arinj village, Nakhichevan) is a renowned Armenian historian, Armenologist, and Honored Worker of Culture of the Republic of Armenia. He has dedicated his scientific career to studying the Armenian cultural heritage and historical-architectural monuments of the historical Nakhichevan region. Over decades, Ayvazyan managed to photograph, measure, and document thousands of khachkars (cross-stones) and dozens of churches in Old Julfa, Agulis, and surrounding areas, which were later completely destroyed by Azerbaijan. The massive photographic archive he created, consisting of more than 10,000 negatives, alongside his numerous monographs, stands today as the unique and irreplaceable preserved records of that lost civilization.

Արգամ Այվազյանը (ծնվ. 1947 թ., գ. Առինջ, Նախիջևան) անվանի հայ պատմաբան, հայագետ և ՀՀ մշակույթի վաստակավոր գործիչ է։ Նա իր գիտական գործունեությունը նվիրել է պատմական Նախիջևան երկրամասի հայկական մշակութային ժառանգության և պատմաճարտարապետական հուշարձանների ուսումնասիրությանը։ Տասնամյակների ընթացքում Այվազյանը հասցրել է լուսանկարել, չափագրել և փաստագրել Հին Ջուղայի, Ագուլիսի և հարակից շրջանների հազարավոր խաչքարեր ու տասնյակ եկեղեցիներ, որոնք հետագայում ամբողջությամբ ավերվեցին Ադրբեջանի կողմից։ Նրա ստեղծած ավելի քան 10,000 նեգատիվից բաղկացած լուսանկարչական արխիվն ու բազմաթիվ մենագրություններն այսօր հանդիսանում են այդ կորուսյալ քաղաքակրթության պահպանված եզակի ու անփոխարինելի վավերագրերը։

Ara Oshagan


Ara Oshagan is a photographer whose work revolves around the intersecting themes of identity, community, and memory. His first collection, iwitness, joined portraits of witnesses of the Armenian Genocide of 1915 with their stories of horror, survival, and redemption. Oshagan has also photographed the Armenian diaspora of Los Angeles in a body of work entitled Traces of Identity. His other projects include Juvies, focusing on the history of youth in the California prison system, and a project about the Ethiopian community of Los Angeles. Ara Oshagan’s work is in the permanent collection of the Southeast Museum of Photography, Florida; the Downey Museum of Art, California; and the Museum of Modern Art in Armenia.
