Rita Soulahian Kuyumjian

Dr. Rita Soulahian Kuyumjian is a prominent Canadian-Armenian psychiatrist, author, and scholar renowned for her pioneering work in psychobiography and the psychological trauma of the Armenian Genocide. A graduate of Yerevan State Medical University, she completed her specialization at McGill University in Montreal, where she serves as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry. Her medical background deeply informs her historical writing, and she gained significant acclaim for her groundbreaking book Archeology of Madness: Komitas, Portrait of an Armenian Icon (2001), which utilizes a clinical perspective to analyze the post-traumatic stress disorder suffered by the revered composer Komitas. Dr. Kuyumjian has also authored the Trilogy—April 24, 1915, offering valuable translations, biographies, and psychoanalytical insights into the lives of surviving Armenian intellectuals like Teotig and Aram Andonian.

Richard G. Hovannisian

RICHARD G. HOVANNISIAN is Holder Emeritus of the Armenian Educational Foundation Chair in Modern Armenian History at the University of California, Los Angeles, and Distinguished Chancellor’s Fellow at Chapman University in Orange, California. The editor of the present series on historic Armenian cities and provinces, his numerous publications include Armenia on the Road to Independence, the four-volume The Republic of Armenia, five volumes on the Armenian Genocide, and sixteen other volumes and sixty research articles relating to Armenian, Caucasian, and Middle Eastern studies. A Guggenheim Fellow, he has received many honors, including encyclicals from the supreme patriarchs of the Armenian Church, two honorary doctoral degrees, and election to membership in the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia. He is the initiator and six-time president of the Society for Armenian Studies (SAS).
