Besides its general overview of Armenian art, this book offers a systematic appraisal of the artists of the 1960s, the entire phenomenon of the Armenian avant-garde, and, more extensively, the national culture and the period itself. This is the first major attempt to forego a traditional, descriptive history of the Armenian culture, in favor of an analytical, all-embracing interpretation of the artistic life of the 1960s, and Armenian national culture in the context of the international art processes.
