Sonia Tashjian is a contemporary Armenian poet, author, and researcher born in Anjar, Lebanon, in 1968. In Beirut, she was an active participant in the «Նոր Գրականութիւն» (New Literature) cultural group before relocating to Armenia in 1990. Known for her emotionally descriptive and introspective style, she published her first volume of poetry, «Այրվող կակաչների ռիթմը» (The Rhythm of Burning Poppies), in 1994, followed by her second anthology, «Անձնագիր» (Passport), in 2004. In addition to her lyrical poetry, Tashjian is a highly respected ethnographer and culinary historian who collaborates with the Houshamadyan project to research, document, and preserve the historical cuisine, traditions, and cultural memory of Ottoman-Armenian village life.
