A remarkable example of the author's psychoanalytic and existentialist prose, forming a part of his extensive novel series The Persecuted. Within the book, the rainy and gloomy atmosphere serves as a symbol and reflection of the main characters' inner anxieties, isolation, and feelings of uncertainty. Using Vorpuni's characteristic avant-garde narrative style, the novel examines the complex psychological condition of the exiled Armenian living in a European (Parisian) environment, the fear of losing one's identity, and the indelible mark left by the atrocities of the past. Here too, through everyday episodes and internal monologues, the writer successfully portrays the deepest questions of human existence and alienation.
